Measurement Information for Technicians and Consumers.
Do you buy or sell firewood? Do you know how to measure your firewood? In Canada, firewood must be bought or sold on the basis of cords (preferred), cubic metres or cubic feet. The various altered cord measurements such as face cord, stove cord, etc. as well as homemade units such as pickup truck load are not acceptable. A cord is 128 ft3 of roundwood stacked neatly with all logs stacked parallel to each other and the space between the logs kept to a minimum. A cord may consist of whole logs or split logs. In each case, the total volume must equal 128 ft3. After stacking your firewood, measure the length, width and height of the stack and use the calculator below to determine the volume.
